Configuring APC's UPS on HP-UX 11.0
My remote site purchases a APC Smart UPS 2200XLNET 2200VA 8 outlet. This is the first time that I configure a UPS. Anyways, The specialist at my remote site connected the UPS after I shutdown the server, powered the UPS up and powered on the server. I uncommented the ups line on /etc/inittab file but don't have a ups_conf file. I didnot install the powershute software yet. Could someone guide me through UPS configuration or point me to a document.
TIA, HHH

Re: Configuring APC's UPS on HP-UX 11.0
Hello Haitham,
With APC UPS's, you do need to load and configure the APC PowerChute software to get communication started between your UPS and HP9000 system, whether it is LAN-based or serial based.
Uncommenting the line in inittab and configuring /etc/ups_conf is only necessary for RS232 serial connected UPS's, and really only for the HP PowerTrust UPS's. PowerChute
has its own configuration files. Of course, LAN-based APC UPS's will have different config files and will not require configuration of ups_conf or inittab.
Good Luck,
Curt

Re: Configuring APC's UPS on HP-UX 11.0
Thanks Curt for the clarification. I found out that I need to purchase the powershute software for HP (It is not downloadable from apc's site).
Thanks again
