Re: console needed (pc)
You need to buy a standard HP console that you can run as hpterm to have local console access. Or you could buy a secure web console - which you attach to the console port and then to your network, this then allows you to use a browser from a PC giving you console access. Contact your local reseller, if u don't have one try Morse (Northern Based - 0161 8690000 or Southern based 0208 3808300, Scotland 0131 226 3300).
You could of course telnet to your H box as it currently is if you get the lan working. This will give you access for most tasks, though not proper console access and is no use for single user mode.
To change the lan ip do:
$lanscan
This will tell you what cards you have the interface name and the current ip. Find the interface name, probably lan0 in your case. Then type:
$ifconfig lan0 192.0.0.192
Obviously substituting in your new chosen IP.
Hope this helps.

Re: console needed (pc)
Ok, let's have it.....
1. You need a terminal cable that plugs into the back of the MFIO card on the back of the machine. Get it from HP or any 3rd party reseller. This allows you console access to the machine, it is a dedicated port.
2. Any dumb terminal will probably work as a console off this cable. The settings for an HP terminal are factory defaults. If you use something else they are 9600,8,none,1.
3. As you probably know, control B is how you access the hardwired functions such as reboot
.
4. You got questions? Post here and send a copy to paul@courry.com
