CPU fan brings down HP server

A cpu fan in D380 server brings down the HP-OS 10.20 .

Several reboot fails , stopping at the PDC boot up .....prompting
"FAN FAILURE "

Fortunately , after 30 mins , the
system came up .

Will it be possible to identify which fan unit in the D380 server chasis gave the problem ???

thanks ....

Hi

From the console go into GSP ctrl +b and enter:- sl (show logs) there should be info in the GSP logs.

Re: CPU fan brings down HP server

Unfortunately there's no GSP in D-class servers, so only the way to check if fan really failed is to open a box and look at CPU fans.
I join Paula - call HP

Omars,
BTW, why do you think CPU fan has failed? Not SPU? I remember there're at least 3 more fans: SPU cabiet fan, IO cage fan and power supply fan. I suspect that you get messages not for CPU, but for SPU fan located at the rear of system block

Re: CPU fan brings down HP server

You should be happy that the system went down due to a fan failure. The computer is trying to save itself from destruction due to overheating. Trying to keep a computer running in spite of a fan (or air conditioning) failure usually damages the processor components, almost always resulting in erratic and unpredictable crashes. The only fix is a complete replacement of the procssor boards (and perhaps the RAM too). Allowing a computer to overheat is a very expensive experiment!

Re: CPU fan brings down HP server

Just last weekend I had a fan failure in an HP PC that caused the CPU to fry.

Time for you to call in HP hardware support.

Re: CPU fan brings down HP server

We are self maintainers. A month ago we had exactly the same problem. The fan on the CPU chip itself was bad. (The fan looks similar to the ones you find on PC CPU's). We replaced the CPU board and all was well. Without the fan that CPU gets HOT.
let me talk to stupid!!
