D220 compatible disks from Seagate

Hi,
I recently posted concerning putting non-HP disks into a 9000/803 D220 machine and got valuable information back, but I still need some info and I fear the other thread is being ignored.

So, I need to know whether a standard Seagate ST318417N disk is compatible with the 9000/803 D220 machine (especially with respect to firmware requirements).

I currently have a Single Ended SCSI interface card, an HP branded Toshiba CDROM and an HP Branded Seagate ST34573N disk in the machine.

I asked Seagate whether the ST318417N disk was compatible witht the ST34573N and this was their response:
"Hello Kevin,

The ST318417N drive is compatible with the ST34573N. This drive is not High Voltage Differential, which is what the HP engineer was referring to.

Some HP systems were very proprietary and had to have HP firmware encoded to the drive before the HP system would recognize them. This is not the case anymore, but some of the older systems were this way. You may want to check with HP to be sure you don't need HP firmware drives. HP firmware drives can only be purchased from HP.

What version of HPUX do you have installed?

Re: D220 compatible disks from Seagate

My current configuration is
OS=HP-UX 11.0
Mem=640Mb
Disk=8.4Gb

I want to upgrade the OS to HP-UX 11i, and do not have the required free disk space, hence need for adding another disk.

Re: D220 compatible disks from Seagate

Hi,
I'm sure, if your new disk is compatible with disk that you have, you will not have problems with it.
In some HP systems like 3000 (old OS in news I don't know) and HP-UX 9.X if you don't have the exact model registered in OS, this disk will not work.
Thing you must check is if your new disk is supported or not. If your new disk is not supported and you have any problem with your server, probably you will loose HP support.

Sorry for my english !

Re: D220 compatible disks from Seagate

Hi,
For the record, I have put this disk into our D220 box, and booted the machine. ioscan picks it up correctly and SAM is able to use it. The only bit that I got burnt on is the max_pe parameter for the Volume Group I was using. This had been set at install time to limit maximum disk size to 10Gb. So, now I have to try and find out how to get the other 8Gb of my new disk usable...
