Dual Processor to a Quad Processor

Hi All,

I have a unix model L2000 with a dual processor
(two 440Mhz) and I would like to see how easy
it would be to make this a Quad Processor.

Can I just add another two processor of 440Mhz
each? I am assuming they have to be the same
frequency.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I buy
new/used?

What would I have to do to get the new Quad
process see the added 2 CPU's?

As always..thank you for your help,
Laurie

Re: Dual Processor to a Quad Processor

I've never mixed speeds on processors so I'm not sure if mixed speeds is supported.

I bought new CPUs and had the CE install them (I bought the installation with CPU, it's cheap). It took the CE about 15 minutes not including shutdown and startup.

Re: Dual Processor to a Quad Processor

Hi,
I don't know any system with mixed cpu's, and I don't think you can mix them.
Concerning new or remarketed hardware: personaly I would go for a remarketed cpu, they are not worn-out after some time of usage, and much cheaper.

Thierry.
All unix flavours are exactly the same . . . . . . . . . . for end users anyway.

Hi
Providing that all processors match, down the server, isolate, wear a grounding strap, fit them and reboot. The machine should see them as it reboots.

Re: Dual Processor to a Quad Processor

Get the 2 CPU's from a 3rd party refurbisher. They will be auto recognized when they are installed.

They will be eligible for HP maintenance 30 days after they are turned on. All 3rd party refurbishers will cover them for a 90 day period usually, more if you pay for it.

Yes, I used to work for a 3rd party refurbisher as a CE.

You won't suffer that much by getting the same speed processor. I wouldn't mix them if you can do that. As for the ease of installing, all it takes is money and a reboot.

Re: Dual Processor to a Quad Processor

"Scuse me? I saw nothing about mixing processor speeds in the original post. Mixing processor speeds is a complete show stopper. The backplane has a clock chip and will not allow more than one processor speed unless the L class has turned the world upside down.
