I would like to get help for adding more CPUs on K260. We have 2 now.
So the question is if we can add 2 more on the server and how.
Though it sounds like to change new engine on an old car, it is not my idea yet I have to work it out.
Very appreciated.
Steven

Re: Help to Add More CPUs on K260
Your K-260 will support up to 4 CPU's. I would certainly get them from a used equipment dealer. They should be relatively cheap for this box. All you do is put on your static strap, open the box up, and insert them.
Normally, if you need that many CPU's you also
probably need to add memory (up to 4GB on your K box).

Re: Help to Add More CPUs on K260
The above posts are correct. You can have up to 4 CPU's in the K260. The part number is A3261A.
If you dont have a preferred vendor for Refurbished HP Parts, please contact me. All items qualify for existing Support Contracts. These CPU's go for $750 each, so that should give you an idea on what to budget for. Hope I could be of assistance.

Re: Help to Add More CPUs on K260
You can add more 2 cpu's to in total 4.
it's very easy to do :
1. Generate an Ignite-UX tape first.
2. Shutdown your server.
3. Use an anti electro-static cable in order not to damage hardware components.
4. Insure that yo have hardware support contract, because in this operation of install/remove alot of components don't support it.
5. Add the 2 CPUs, there is front slots and back slots intended for that.
6. reboot your system and watch the LCD display in the top of the rack to see weather there is any status error.

Re: Help to Add More CPUs on K260
remember to ensure that you have at least one memory module (SIMM pair) per CPU. You will suffer performance problems if you don't have enough modules. See pg. 2-61 of the 11/99 HP9000 Enterprise Servers Configuration Guide.
