HP DAT40 Drive not working on K210

Hello -

I have a K210 server running 10.20. I am trying to
connect an HP DAT40e tape drive to the 28655A
SCSI SE interface. As the DAT40e is a LVD/SE
device, I am using an HP 50 to 68 pin SCSI cable.
Daisy chained to the tape drive is an external 40GB
LVD/SE disk.

The external disk works fine. The DAT40 does not.
The DAT40 responses to the ioscan inquiry. It is
CLAIMED and bound to the tape2 driver. However
when I access the DAT40 with a mt or diskinfo
command, I get "I/O Error".

I have stape/tape2 cuml patch PHKL_22855
installed. No help. I used the drive successfully
on my C160 station running 11.0. So the drive
is fine. Any ideas???

Thanks

Re: HP DAT40 Drive not working on K210

Hi

first diskinfo command is nothing to do with DAT drives.

second have you got a tape in the DAT drive and are you specifying the correct h/w address when using mt

mt -f /dev/rmt/0m offl

this will use the tape at h/w address /dev/rmt/0m and take it off line , it will also complain if there is no tape in the drive.

try doing an ls of /dev/rmt to find out what devices drivers you have installed.

Joe,
Which kind of terminator do you use? You should force the system to SE with a SE terminator

Just a advice, don't put a tape device in the same bus of a disk device.
Do it today, don't leave for tomorrow

Joe,
Did you add the
tape2
scsi1
target
Driver to the kernel?
