hp-ux 5 on a rp2405

Can I run hp-ux 5 on a rp2405.

The old machine is falling apart.

A rp2405 would be a big enhancement.

Sorry, no chance. HP-UX 5 ran only on HP 9000 Series 200, 300 and 500 systems, which all used Motorola 68000 CPU architecture. According to Wikipedia, HP-UX 5.0 was released back in 1985.

The rp24xx models (full name would be something like HP 9000 Series 800 Model rp24xx) use 64-bit PA-RISC CPU architecture, and support HP-UX versions 11.00 ... 11.23 only.

HP-UX 10.20 and older were 32-bit only, and 64-bit support in the OS is an absolute requirement for rp24xx hardware.

Since the CPU architecture is different, you would need a Motorola CPU emulator to run HP-UX 5.0 software on any modern HP-UX (or any other) system.

If you don't mind my asking, what kind of application software has been so irreplaceable that a HP-UX 5 system has been maintained to this day?

Efacs ERP with informix at some plant in the UK.
It's very neclegted.
Nothing can be done in short term.

Is there a way to run this os on a more modern machine?
Virtualize ot something like that.

Nope, not at all.

I think the earliest version that will in a VPAR is HP-UX 11.11.  HP-UX 5 has absolutely NO HOPE!

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-UX HP-UX version 5 was released in 1985!  You are seriously still running that?

HP-UX 5 is about the same age as DOS 1.0...there is NOTHING in common between the hardware. The disks, the computer architecture, all completely incompatilbe. And unless you have a lot of spare parts, when this machine goes down (either software or hardware), that will be the end of this system. Neglected is fine for a useless machine, but if anyone is depending on this machine, then you are on borrowed time. You can make an emergency priority to replace the application (not the machine or the application since all of that is obsolete and unsupported) immediately, while you have some time to export needed data and application interfaces. Otherwise, when it dies, everyone will be running around wondering why this wasn't replaced at an earlier time.

Migrate to another hardware would mean a full implementation.

Can not be done in the short term.

They tried to implement dynamic AX whch resulted in a fiasco.
