L3000 CPU's
The company I work for is very close to purchasing an L3000 with 2 PA 8600 550Mhz CPUs.
I read in the product brochure that the PA 8700 720Mhz CPU should be out soon (unfortunately the roadmap is very vague, suggesting that it will be introduced sometime between the end of 2000 and the end of 2001.). Our HP Rep' in Italy wasn't able to help either.
Q1) Is there a known date for the launch of the PA8700?
Q2) If we buy two PA8600, can we fill the remaining 2 CPU slots with PA8700's?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Leon

Re: L3000 CPU's
Dont know about the 8700, but I do know that you cant mix CPU types in a machine.

Re: L3000 CPU's
Rather than getting the latest and greatest CPU you would be better served by cramming every byte of RAM that you can into the machine. This will more than make up for any lack of horsepower.
BTW, the standard practice is to put HP memory in the first slot (because of maintenance contracts) and fill the rest of the slots with good quality 3rd party memory.
