Memory on K460

Hi

I have a K460 box running 11.00. I have 3GB memory on it. I want to know how much is the max memory that K460 can have? How many slots are used currently?
I have the "system memory upgrade for K class" any other docuemnt or source?

Thanks
IT is great!

Re: Memory on K460

Oh, and you can use stm (cstm, xstm) to figure out how many slots are currently in use.

Re: Memory on K460

I know there are 256M memory sticks (512M/pair). 460 memory carrier supports 16 sticks. And their can be 2 memory carriers.

256M X 16 X 2 = 8G max

of course, all the sticks have to be 256M, which your's appear to be 128K (assuming your already using 2 memory carriers). If you use all 128K sticks, there is a 4G max.

If your only using one memory carrier, you'll need to get another.

Re: Memory on K460

the owners manual on page 2-13 has 5 sentences about memory.

http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/A2375-90003.pdf

one of those says,
mulitprocessor systems can address up to 8Gbytes of ram.

of course, you'll need to be using to 64 bit version of the OS to make use of more then 3.75G. And, you might need a firmware update to be able to install the 64 bit OS

you'll have to be at least at firmware level 3801. http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?patchid=PF_CMHK3943&admit=-682735245+1065197894225+28353475&context=firmware%3Acpu

Re: Memory on K460

The K4XX's and above can accomodate a maximum of 8GB of RAM iff you have 2 memory carriers otherwise you max out at 4GB. K3XX's and below allow only 4GB maximum.

Unless you are running 64-bit 11.x there is no point in going beyond 4GB because as far as the kernel is concerned anything about 4GB is in the Twilight Zone.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Memory on K460

Dohhh! I was remembering my form k460, which was running 10.20!! Obviously, if your 11.0 is 64 bit, the 3.75GB isn't going to apply - sorry.

Re: Memory on K460

No additional memory comes with the K460.

Re: Memory on K460

The maximum memory supported by a K460 running **64-bit** 11.0 is 8GB, according to HP. If, however, you are running the 32-bit version, you can only address 3.75GB.

See the K-class Owners Manual here:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/A2375-90003.pdf
see page 2-13.

also the memory upgrade guide:
