memory upgrade
we are planning to upgrade a memory of the server rp7410. Is there any specific sequence for upgrading, means do we have to use all the DIMMS of the same size or it can be of different sizes.

Re: memory upgrade
DIMMs must be installed in pairs of the same size. Although it's not mandatory that they all be the same, it's *highly* recommended that they be the same & spread evenly across both cell boards - if you have two.
Here's a link to the User's Guide:
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/2461/A6752-96008.pdf
It has the part numbers for the diff sizes of DIMMs.

Re: memory upgrade
rp7410 memory is in "quads".
If you look on the cell board, there is a diagram explaining what order to put them in. All DIMMs in a quad must be the same size. Also, making all of the quads the same will increase memory interleaving and thus, speed.

Re: memory upgrade
Guess I hadn't had enough coffee yet this morning ;^))
Thanks for the sanity check Josh.
rp7410s do indeed populate RAM in quads.
Following are part numbers for DIMMs shown in the User's guide:
1GB DIMM (single) A6098AX A6098-69001
512MB DIMM (single) A6097AX A6097-69001
256MB DIMM (single) A6802AX A6802-69001
First number is replacement & second, exchange.
Rgds,
Jeff
