Model number of K motherboard with 64 bit model string
The only way to change this model string is to get an HP engineer to come out and use ssconfig to update it. BUT if the system is unsupported this is a chargeable item.
Does anyone know if certain model number/ revisions of the K-Class motherboard had the correct model string by default, then we can just try and buy the right motherboards in the first place.
TIA,
Bruce

Re: Model number of K motherboard with 64 bit model string
First 39.43 is the latest version of firmware on K Class. You don't need to have the latest on your Server to load HP-UX 11.0 64 Bit, though it would be good if you have. I have systems at a lower version of firmware and am not facing any problem.
Also Till now i was not required to ask the service of a hp engineer to change the model string. Don't loose sleep on that. It might not be neccessary. Thought as paul said, this should be put in the lap of the vendor and let him worry about that.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Re: Model number of K motherboard with 64 bit model string
The problem I've got is I'm the vendor!
We're having problems getting the right boards from our supplier without knowing of a different model number.
I'll just have to buy them in and test them here, we've got an agreement that if they won't take 64 bit we can get them refunded.
Sanjay, how have you changed your model string in the past? I put a question to the forum last month and the consensus was that it could only be done by HP engineers using the ssconfig tool. And even then the engineers would need to come out on site and THEN call HP for the password to run it.
Cheers,
Bruce.

Re: Model number of K motherboard with 64 bit model string
have a look at /etc/.supported_bits for a list of models.
You can then reference this to hp.com/go/hpux11 11i support info.
Later,
