Old HP9000 E55 Server
HI!
I've gotten hold of an old HP 9000 E55 sever and is there anyone who could help with some info about getting it up and running.
I both have Linux and Win NT on my othert computer, and on my network monitor the server send small packages through my network. Is there any way of getting hold of the servers IP, or DNS name?
There are no card for monitor display on the server....Any kind of help, I would be glad!!

Re: Old HP9000 E55 Server
Connect a serial cable (com1,9pin) with your PC and E55.With Hyperterminal or CRT connect with it and check /etc/rc.config.d/netconf,/etc/hosts,/etc/resolv.conf

Re: Old HP9000 E55 Server
The E55 is a server class machine and does not come with a video card, so there is no 'monitor' video output similar to pc's and workstations. The console port for the machine is serial based and requires either a terminal or pc with terminal emulation software on it. The preferred terminal emulation is one of the HP types, but there are few software products that support any of them (but WRQ does). The system can also use plain old VT-100 emulation, but function key assignments are a problem and are used heavily in some of the HPUX character based software utilities (particularly SAM and swinstall). Yor best bet is to purchase a HP terminal to do the job; it should be less than $100 US on the used market. After you have set up networking, you can easily administer the box through a remote X session for some of the fancy GUI utilities.
