OS question

The disk in our L-class has gone bad and so I am facing an new install from the ground up. Our company has another network on Windows 2000 that we are migrating to and the question is has anyone ever installed Win 2000 on one of these boxes?

Is it possible?

Thanks

Re: OS question

I wouldn't think it was possible, reason being that Win2000 is based on CISC processors while hp9000's make use of RISC.

Re: OS question

Hi Laura,

Sorry, that dog won't hunt. Your L-box will not run any Intel based code. I hope you made a make_recovery tape so that your restore will be a breeze. If not, the OS install is still very straightforward.

Re: OS question

The first HP box to support intel based os's (Windows, NT, Linux) are the Itanium platforms, just released.

Re: OS question

Hi

It is not possible...Only IA64 architecture will support MS bugs. Or else Why U want to load such a Microsoft bug in such an Intelligent Hardware?

Re: OS question

I believe the N and L will support WinTurkey/NotTested, as with the superdomes on itanium. Apparently the boxes are itanium ready (simple chip swap) but, I'd imagine theres a GSP/PDC f/w upgrade required.
For the moment the only box running linux/NT/Hpux is the i2000 workstation.. i'm sure instructions will come very soon.

Good reason to install windos on these boxes is for playing games.. just imagine the games that'll come out!
