RP7420 Hard Partitioning

I have an RP7420 with two cell boards each having 3 dual core processors and 8gb memory. The system also has 4 disk drives, two core I/O, and 4 x A6795A (2gb Fiber Channel Adapters). I need to convert this system from a one partition system to a two partition system with all resources split down the middle. Than I need to install HPUX onto each partition.

Could someone please tell me the steps I need to do in order to do this? Thank you.

Re: RP7420 Hard Partitioning

You need to have a running hp-ux on the system.
Then you can use parmgr (even graphical from SMH) to create the partitions. This new setup is valid after a reboot with "-R" option.

Alternatively there is a parmgr application for your PC that connects to the MP for this configuration change.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: RP7420 Hard Partitioning

Torsten, is this for a vpar setup or a npar setup? I would like two hardware partitions (npar).

Also, what is SMH?

Will I be able to see both Partitions from the MP?

Re: RP7420 Hard Partitioning

Assuming I have one genesis partition 0 and HPUX 11i v1 installed, in order to create a second partition do I boot into HPUX on partition 0, parmodify to remove a cell and then parcreate to create a new partition with the cell I just removed? (syntax not included).

If I create a second partition with cell 1, will it automatically use the correct Core I/O, the two hard drives not being used by partition 0, and the correct I/O bay? or do these need to be included some how?

Once I create the second partition can I boot to the BCH and install HPUX on this partition?

Thank you.

This is a screenshot I found:

You have a wizard to create a new partition - it's really easy to use.

Hope this helps!

Re: RP7420 Hard Partitioning

Is this wizard also available to use for PA Risc systems like the RP7420?

Will it be available for HPUX 11i v1?

What is this program called that I am seeing a screen shot of?

Sorry, for all the questions.
