rp8400 UPS

Hi,

I have purchased a rp8400 with dual partition with "A1356A UPS PowerTrust II LR 2.1 KW UPS 230V". This is the highest capacity UPS which gets selected through the HP Quick Quote
https://www.e-solutions.hp.com/auth/cgi-bin/welcome.cgi?login=1

Now I can see that the output of the UPS is 10Amps but the input required by rp8400 is 15 Amps.

I have serious doubt that this ups will support rp8400.

How can HP Quick Quote gives an option to configure such a UPS with a dual partition rp8400?

Will this UPS support rp8400?

Thanks,
Everything is possible

Re: rp8400 UPS

Came accross a sililar problem a couple of months ago. It appears HP have stopped providing the larger UPS's. Our UK contact put us in touch with HP special products who supplied an UPS from a manufacurer called MGE.

These UPS's do not work with the HP's ups_mond but comes with its own software.

I have also used an APC Smart-UPS with Powerchute software in the past.

Re: rp8400 UPS

Hi,

I think it is recommended to have a 6kW UPS connected to the RP8400. Thus, the 2.1kW look rather small.
Currently, there is no larger UPS offered by HP, BUT: I have heard rumors, that from 1st of May 2003 (tomorrow ;-) ) there are supposed to be some new UPS offered by HP - larger ones, including 6kW.
Please contact your local sales representative for details.

Regards.

Re: rp8400 UPS

Sanjiv,

I agree that it doesn't look pretty. Even two of them wouldn't cut it!

If HP doesn't come out with a new UPS, then you should look elsewhere for an external UPS like an Nfinity:

Re: rp8400 UPS

HP used to carry the A6584A 6.5kW/9kVA UPS and the A6585A 8.0kW/12kVA UPS. You may still be able to get these remarketed, or through resellers. Both of these use the A6587A battery packs, which you can use to prolong the backup power length. I don't think the QuickQuote is designed for ordering systems that big. You should probably talk to HP sales to find out if the bigger UPS is still available.
What are the chances...

Re: rp8400 UPS

Hi,

starting now, there is supposed to be a new type of UPS for HP-UX 900 Servers available: The 6kW Version is called R6000XR (Product Numer J4370A) . It is an UPS which was previously used by Compaq and now was adopted by HP for the HP-UX 9000 servers, too.
The corresponding software is called LANsafe. Contact your local sales office for Details.
