Secure Web Console
I came into work to find the attention light flashing on my Lclass and the sound of the fan working treble time. Could see any process spikes etc. so concluded overheating, shutdown, left her cool down for about 30 mins, powered up, started up my databases and all is hunky dory. Attention light is still flashing, so try to log into SWC to check logs. Can't log in. Cant connect. I can ping but thats it. So I tried a soft reset, after that I can't ping so I tried reset factory defaults. Now I can ping, did route add, but when I try to access from my ie6 browser on my W2000 machine all I get is "Loading Java applet..." Opening http
://192.0.0.192/hp/secwebc/gui/GUI_Main.class at the bottom of the screen. I can ping and get a reply but It just cant seem to connect fully via the browser, its like its hanging...have left it for a while to see if it made connection but still nothing....any ideas???
Perhaps this is related to my original cause for reboot???
Thanks in advance
Babs

Re: Secure Web Console
You can access web console thru a NT server machine. Using W2K, you can't access the web console.

Re: Secure Web Console
1. Can you ping the web console ?
2. can you try another version of IE from another PC to see if it can connect ? (to exclude a bad IE install or Java install)
3. Is the web console connected aok to the console port on your L class ?
4. Is your W2K box uptodate with both service packs ?
The flashing light is a warning from your server - nothing to do with web console access.

Re: Secure Web Console
It sounds like you might have a couple of problems. First, your web console is acting flaky, and second, your system may have had some problems. To get around the web console problem, you could hook up a regular console into the console port, if you have one of the old text consoles available. If not, you'll just have to go through the steps to configure your web console and make sure it is happy again. Once you have that working you can login to the GSP and go look at the logs to see why the attention light is blinking.
As for Windows 2000 accessing the SWC, I'm running W2K on my laptop and I'm accessing them with no problem. Maybe it is a browser issue?

Re: Secure Web Console
Stefen, I have the same config at my lab.
All the web consoles can be accessed from NT servers(my workstation is a NT server)where as the same web consoles can't be accessed thru W2K on the same network( HP support guy came and tried, he couldn't solve this problem) If you have any solution please post it.

Re: Secure Web Console
I can ping the SWC using its factory default ip 192.0.0.192
and get a reply. I have tried a few other pcs, one with W2K one with XP
they can't connect either. I haven't changed any physical connections have checked that
none have fallen lose etc. I dont have any console to connect to see, all I have is a terminal emulator. I am running W2K build 5.00.2195 service pack 2.
Hi John,
I was going through the steps of re configureing the SWC when I hit this problem...I can't log into it with its factory default ip 92.0.0.192 to reconfigure the rest.
Thanks for the speedy resonses guys :)

Re: Secure Web Console
I just had a Win2K machine that wouldn't work, and it was running JRE 1.3.1_02. Updated to 1.4.1 and it worked fine.

Re: Secure Web Console
I had, a long time ago, about the same problem. It took me a couple of day's to find out that the SUBNET MASK was my problem of not connecting to de Secure Web Console. If you can ping it, you have to look somewere else.

Arthur

Re: Secure Web Console
I hate to suggest something so basic, but after being burned by a *partially* bad network cable the other night, I thought I would mention it.
We had a cable that would indicate that there was a link, but because there was a short in the cable someplace, it wouldn't send/receive data. It took several hours of trying other things to just try a new cable (which of course fixed it immediately).
Versions of Windows/IE/JRE shouldn't affect your ability to ping the thing so it sounds like there's an underlying problem with the physical connection or the GSP itself.
I have to add to the thread that I've used my Win2K/IE6 machine to connect to my rp5470 (L3000) web console, so it can work.
Good luck!
