Termserver
Hi All,
Has any of you ever setup network printers connected to an Equinox termserver? I'm migrating from a Data General Aviion 9500 to HP9000/N4000. Any info at all will be more than I've got now. Thanks, in advance.
Don

Re: Termserver
I'm warning you in advance that this is a piss poor reply...............
We had terminal servers hooked up to our HP3000 serving both terminals and printers. The basic setup was the computer talked to the DTC 48, this was then hooked to the terminal server in the computer room. From that point a session was established with the remote terminal server across the country and from there to the printer or the terminal.
If it is just printers you are servicing you can junk the terminal servers by hooking up the printers to your LAN using either HP Jet Direct boxes or AXIS print server boxes at a rather cheap price. This would allow you straight TCP/IP printer to your printers. We've just converted all our printers from Terminal Servers to AXIS print server boxes (the size is about the palm of your hand) across the country and are happy with the results.
Again, I warned you this was a marginal response.....

Re: Termserver
Jay,
Thanks for the info. I agree with the use of JetDirects. In fact, we use them extensively throughout our organization. Unfortunately, I have to move some high-speed lineprinters from the DG platform to the HP. These printers will not interface with a JetDirect hence the need for the termservers. Also, we don't have the DTC 80's. I appreciate your taking the time to repsond.
Thanks again,
Don
