Virtual SWAP

As more and more physical memory is installed, more swap space should be allocated. Otherwise application may not start even if there is enough physical memory. Is there any virutal swap mechanism like other UNIX (SGI irix) that the swap is allocated successfully but no actual space is reserved? Certainly the app will crash when the swap does be needed during processing.

Re: Virtual SWAP

if you are looking for info on HP-UX, you can configure psuedo-swap in the kernel. This is designed to allow for virtual memory mapping to allow for systems with large memory configurations to not require euivalent large swap allocations of disk space.

the configurable parameter is swapmem_on... set it to 1 to enable it.
