What paper explains about HP Software and Patch versions?

I would like to know what paper explains about the versions that are used in HP Software and Patch. for example A.3.30, C.3.30. What "A" and "C" means, since they refer at the same software.
If you want something, you need to persist to get that.

I believe it has just to do with the CD-ROM version
from which the products have been installed...
