10GBASE-T Node switches

Hi All,

I am looking at providing a 10GB ethernet uplink from node switches to the core. We currently have a Procurve 5406 zl and will be purchasing an 8 port 10GBASE-T module

http://www8.hp.com/au/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5096942

I am looking for a POE 12-16 port gigabit switch that allows for 2 x 10GBASE-T ports via Dual personality ports or as standard. So far all i have found is switches that have fibre uplink ports.

Trying to stay away from fibre at the moment due to cost of cabling and all connections will be < 100 m so there is no need, however as this will be a new building all options are considered.

Thanks

Re: 10GBASE-T Node switches

I don't know about 12-16 ports, but what about a 24 port?

Part # J9587A - HP 3800 24 port PoE+ switch with 2 10Gig Base-T ports.

I think this is the closest you'll get with HP's current lineup if you want to avoid fiber for the 10G uplink.

Re: 10GBASE-T Node switches

Hi, 3800 series is one option but you have to choose between 10GBASE-T or 10Gb SFP+ model. This one has the same intelligence and features as your 5400zl core. Another option (from the same ProCurve/Provision platform) is 2920. You have two interface slots on back and you can choose between two 2-port modules (10GBASE-T and 10Gb SFP+) or have both in one 2920.

J9727A    HP 2920-24G-POE+ Switch
J9732A    HP 2920 2-port 10GBASE-T Module
J9731A    HP 2920 2-port 10GbE SFP+ Module

If it's a new building then you will have new cabling and can have it specified that it must be cat6a.
