2810-48G: Out of pkt buffers
Hi, all.
I have HP Procurve 2810-48G. 30 ports are used for servers.Recently, the logs I found the message:
W 12/19/09 10:47:02 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 275159
W 12/19/09 08:08:38 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 273776
W 12/18/09 20:14:30 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 273146
W 12/18/09 17:59:24 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 271107
W 12/18/09 16:46:54 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 268552
W 12/18/09 15:31:20 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 265287
W 12/18/09 14:17:44 system: Out of pkt buffers; miss count: 259331
What does this mean? Switches do not have required performance?
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to ProCurve / ProVision-Based. - Hp Forum Moderator

Re: 2810-48G: Out of pkt buffers
might be a problem that there is too much traffic going to the management IP of the switch. Can you post the output of the "sh system" and "sh ip" of the switch?
Cheers,
Michael

Re: 2810-48G: Out of pkt buffers
you have missed buffers on IP Mgmt:
IP Mgmt - Pkts Rx : 8580 Packet - Total : 3022
Pkts Tx : 8712 Buffers Free : 2775
Lowest : 0
Missed : 307,060 ---> Missed Buffers for IP Mgmt
Recommended action is to decrease broadcast traffic of to check which traffic is hitting your mgmt IP address. If you cannot get rid of this traffic you should consider using a dedicated VLAN for Mgmt traffic only and remove the IP address from your user traffic.
Cheers,
Michael
