Backup routing with VLANs bridged.
I have a situation where a vlan sits across 2 sites.
The site that I am on has a 5412ZL as the core switch. The link to the second site runs straight from the switch with a VLAN that spans the link, which means that the ip network address exists and is operational on both sites. Not my idea of ultimate fun, but that is what I have to work with.
The remote site is managed by someone else and I have no access or control over the kit or configuration sitting there.
I am installing a backup link to ensure connectivity with the servers that are on the remote site. Normally I would just set up a second route with a higher metric, but as this is not reliant on route tables that is not going to work.
Anyone have an idea on how this can be done, or is it going to be a manual operation when the main link fails....
Thanks in advance
Ross
