Cannot update E2910al-24G

Hi there!

I have three J9145A, all running W.14.38. I have tried updating all of them to W.14.49 without success. When uploading the image using the serial cable/Xmodem, nothing happens after the transfer completes. Using sftp, I get a permission denied error, and using tftp I get "00000K Corrupted download file." I know the image is good as I've successfully uploaded it to three other switches in the past, but just to completely rule this out I re-downloaded it from the support site - same result.

One other thing I noticed, which may be related to this issue, is that I cannot change the default boot image (I tried uploading to both primary and secondary when the primary image was the default one, which I then tried to change to secondary image). The 'boot set-default flash' command doesn't return any error, but 'show flash' shows no modification ('Default Boot    : Primary').

I didn't see any special update instructions in the RelNotes for W.14.49 and I have the feeling I'm missing something basic that's in the manual, but can't figure out what. Any suggestions, please?

Re: Cannot update E2910al-24G

Hi,

Have you try to reload the switches before the upgrade ? The better solution would be to power off the device, wait for 30sec then power on.

Have you try to backup your configuration ? From running or from startup with TFTP or SCP ? Have you try to use the command copy config, to have a backup in the local flash (you can use 3 slots, One for the "startup" already used, two for additionnal purpose) ?

This is to be sure that Flash memory is not corrupted on these devices.

Bye.

Re: Cannot update E2910al-24G

copy config fails as well, though reading from it works without any hitch - I even did a byte compare of the two images against the .swi from the support site. So, basically, the internal flash acts as if it is read-only. I haven't tried reloading or power cycling them yet, I'm leaving that for the next scheduled maintenance. (My initial plan was to have the new firmware already copied on all of them and simply reload when the time comes.) Thank you for the suggestions, I'll come back with more info after the reboot.

Well, a power cycle had no effect on this issue. I'm now trying to open a case with support.
