Cisco and HP New DC Design
We are looking to join Hp edge switches to Cisco Core 4500 - X
Struggling to find any help on if we can have 10G trunks to core. HP switches we have are 4208vl (J8773A) , 2900 48G (J9050A)
we need to connect above HP switches to 4500-X on 10G using cisco SFP-H10GB-CU1M.
any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Cisco and HP New DC Design
Fast answer is no, this will not work with the cable SFP-H10GB-CU1M as that is a Cisco DAC.
The 4200vl does not have any 10GB options and the 2900 does but you would need a module and then still the SFP-H10GB-CU1M would not be accepted.
The only option to connect the 2900 over 10GB is the expansion module and CX4 or X2 transceivers with fiber cable.

Re: Cisco and HP New DC Design
Thanks scooter
I can look for alternate as long as 2900 (J9050A) can connect to Cisco 4500 X using 10G X2 port.
If SFP-H10GB-CU1M is not compatible what do you suggest ?

Re: Cisco and HP New DC Design
On the 2900 side presuming you don't need to cover a very long distance a J8436A should be good.

For all compatible 10GbE X2 transceivers:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02604897/c02604897.pdf
scroll to page 3 for the 2900
No idea what the equivalent transceiver would be for Cisco though.

Re: Cisco and HP New DC Design
I'm a little bit confused how to chose the right cable. response from Cisco is
You will need to check both transceivers data sheets and buy the fibre optic cable needed, then make the connections at both ends of the cable with each transceiver chosen HP 10GBE X2 Transceiver and Cisco SFP+ transceiver.
The cable has to be chosen based on Wavelength, Transceiver Type and the other variable mentioned before (Speed, Number of fibres, Maximum Distance etc).
SFP+ datasheet for specifications and compliance. Please check the section called Regulatory and Standards Compliance
I need to make sure there is no copatability issue. Any suggestions please?

Re: Cisco and HP New DC Design
two main concerns here are:
- 10GbE X2 transceivers on HP and Cisco have sfp+transceivers are they compatible or does it have to be sfp+ both ends?
- I'v been advised I don't need GBIC, if that is the case how does the fibre connect to transceivers ? or does the cable come with GBICs?
