Cisco DAC cable on Procurve 2920 with 2 x 10Gbit SFP+

Hi,

We are changing some configuration in our iSCSI domain. At first this was consolidated in our Core switches.

Cisco 3750X stack. And it has the following components:

2 x Cisco 3750X stack with optional 10Gbit SFP+ module

4 x Cisco DAC SFP-H10GB-CU5M

2 x HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 10Gbit

This all worked except that next to the core function of the Cisco switch they where to busy with other traffic that Iscsi performance was impacted.

So we bought two Procurve 2920 as they are recommended iSCSI switches by HP to create a separate iSCSI / SAN.

When I try to connect the Cisco DAC cable to the 10Gbit module in the HP 2920 it starts flashing red on the module.

I read on the Internet that Cisco supports HP as well as Cisco DAC cables but HP only supports HP.

Can anyone confirm this is true and that the SFP-H10GB-CU5M cable is not supported but the 10Gbit module in the 2920. (HP 2920-24G Switch (J9726A) with
HP 2920 2-port 10GbE SFP+ Module (J9731A))

Thanks

HP Procurve never supported anything else than HP branded optics to my knowledge.

Funny thing is that the HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 10Gbit supports Cisco DAC while switches do not.

I've ordered a couple of the following cables to see if they work :
HP ProCurve 10-GbE SFP+ 3m Direct Attach Cable
J9283B

Thanks again for the confirmation.

I have used the HP DACs in HP switches and they worked fine.

I would not expect any non-HP DACs to work in HP switches - when you insert the DAC, view the switch log and see what it says.

Also, do a "show module details" and see what it says.
