Connecting 2520-24-POE to HP SCS

Greetings - I am attempting to connect an HP 2520-24-POE switch to an HP Serial Console Server (SCS1600) via standard (568B) cat5 cable.

With standard settings (9600/8N1/XONXOFF) the SCS is not able to establish a connection with the 2520-24. I suspect this is because a cat5 cable does not cross the necessary pairs to emulate (create) a null-modem cable.

Am I correct in my assumptions? Anyone else have experience with this that they would be willing to share?

Yes, you are right

You need to use rollover cable instead of standard to connect a switch.

There are different serial protocols. Check your console server settings. We use comservers to convert serial to ethernet and they need to be set to the correct protocal using dipswitches. I don't think it has anything to with the ethernet cable.

I used a rollover cable to attempt to connect a port on our SCS16 to the console port of the 2520-24-POE without luck.

I find plenty of documentation for connecting the console port of a switch to a DB9/PC. What I am attempting to do is connect an HP ProCurve switch to an HP Serial Console Server (16 port) to enable us to manage the switch out of band.

Does anyone have any experience with cabling a ProCurve to an SCS? Pinouts...anything?

Thank you for the links to the SCS documents, which I have already read.

If I can make a diagram of what I am trying to accomplish

I am having great issues with the ??? part, which isn't (as far as I can tell) covered in any HP documentation. Maybe I haven't found the right documents yet.

I solved this issue myself. Why HP doesn't publish this information OR use a standard pinout to allow for the use of a simple rollover cable is beyond me.
