Hi everyone, I need help. As you've seen in my previous post, I'm in deep trouble with a 4200vl : we added 4 10 Gbe ports, only to discover that these are actually nigh unusable except to cascade switches. However I need fast transfers (5 Gb or more) between the servers.
So the question is : could I keep one of the 4200vl 10 Gbe port as an uplink to a 6400CL, and connect my 4 servers to the latter? Would it work? The (literally) 3000 dollars question is : could I transfer data from my servers at more that 1 Gb/s using a 6400CL? Would the uplink to the 4200vl work properly?
Puhleaaase help.

SolutionHi,
Depends on how your traffic are flowing. The 1Gbit restraing on a specific src-dst mac pair still would apply between your 6400cl and 4200vl switch.

Re: Could I cascade a procurve 6400CL to a 4200vl through 10 Gbe?
That's OK, there will only machines with 1Gb interfaces on the 4200vl anyway. All the 10Gb equipped system will go on the 6400CL. However this time I really need to be sure that it will work :) So I take your word that the 6400CL doesn't suffer from the same limitation as the 4200vl on its 10Gbe ports..

Re: Could I cascade a procurve 6400CL to a 4200vl through 10 Gbe?
Hi,
That limit should only affect the vl 1-Port 10-GbE X2 Module (J8766A), I dont know of any such limitation on the 6400 modules.
