Creating 2Gbps Backbone with LACP
Hi all,
Im looking into LACP to setup a backbone of 2 Gbps but i'm not sure how i best setup the port on the switches and since it a live environment that im working with i would like to be sure before i make any changes!
I would like to use 1 switch as backbone with all ports configured as Active LACP. Then all my other switches i would like to connect to the backbone switch with two 1Gbps cables and on those switches only the 2 ports that are connected to the backbone switch configured as Active LACP
Is this the correct way to set it up? Does anyone maybe have some documentation on how te setup LACP?
What best practice to set something up like this?
This is a little network diagram where u can see what i mean!

Re: Creating 2Gbps Backbone with LACP
Hi Ystrobbe,
What you propose would work fine. For further details on static/LACP trunking have a look through your switches Management & Configuration Guide.
Don't forget to mark a post resolved if your question was answered.

Re: Creating 2Gbps Backbone with LACP
I have a followon question re: LACP. I currently have a ProCurve 2510-48 with one pair of gigabit ports which are in an LACP trunk that is connected to an LACP trunked pair on the backbone switch, an HP 2910al-24. It works fine.
I am replacing the 2510 with a new V1910-48G. I have attempted to configure the same LACP trunk pair on the V1910, but the ports will not connect with the 2910 trunk. I get the error on the V1910 that the ports are not configured properly. I have seen some other posts on the Internet relating this error with no answers.
I have tried everything to adjust the port configurations to no avail, including making the LACP static, dynamic. I have changed the ports from Auto to forced gigabit, from AUTO to duplex, and etc. Nothing changes this issue.
When I move the cables back to the 2510, the link works fine. I have tried recreating the trunks, switching systems on and off, but I cannot get the two to talk.
Any thoughts? Thank you for your help!
