DTP and STP
Hi,
I could do with some advice regarding DTP and STP please,
I am currently configuring two 5406zl switches as a DTP pair as the core, with dt trunks to 2920 stacks around the building. There are legacy 2910 stacks in some cabinets that need to connect back with one link to each 5406zl, however I been informed that 2910 dont support DTP so they will have a connection back to both core switches, I assume I will need to run STP for these but I am unsure on the best way to go about implementing this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: DTP and STP
Hi simplyphonix,
DTP and STP can co-exist on the same network. Switches that are on DTP links will always be seen as STP root switch as BPDU's are not passed along a DTP link. But for switches that are not connected to DTP trunks you can use STP to give you resilient paths to the switches. In this scenario I would suggest just setting a link priority on one of the links to the non-DTP switches and let STP work it out. I have a couple fo LAns running with both DTP and MSTP and they work fne, just as long as you are aware of the limitations of having DTP and STP in operation.
Have a read through the Advanced Traffic Management Guide and Switch Software Management & Configuration Guide. They outline the limitations of DTP with STP.
HTH
