E2510-24G crashing repeatedly
Hello everybody,
I'm having massive problems with a 18 month old ProCurve E2510-24G crashing repeatedly. I already experienced this issue some time ago when I tried to enable SNMP communication and stacking with the other ProCurves in our network. Back then I read that a firmware update was released that fixed this error but I didn't have a chance to update the firmware until now.
Today I installed the recent firmware version Y11.16 and now it's even worse! Whenever I try to access the switch via telnet or the web interface it crashes and reboots. When I try to log in the next time I get a crash report like this at the logon screen:
Saved crash information: TLB Miss: Virtual Addr=0xcccccccc IP=0xcccccccc Task='tHttpd' Task ID=0x81e83db0 fp:0x00000000 sp:0x81e83cc8 ra:0xcccccccc sr:0x1000fc01
or this:
Saved crash information: TLB Miss: Virtual Addr=0xcccccccc IP=0xcccccccc Task='tHttpd' Task ID=0x81e857e0 fp:0x00000000 sp:0x81e856f8 ra:0xcccccccc sr:0x1000fc01
Does anybody have an idea what might me wrong with the device? The only "real" configuration change we made (aprt from ntp and such small changes) was enabling VLAN on about half of the ports. Everything else is pretty much out of the box: No stacking, no snmp, so monitoring, no nothing...
Thank you very much!

Re: E2510-24G crashing repeatedly
hi,
Regarding the release notes :
Release Y.11.03
The following problems were resolved in build Y.11.03.
■ Crash (PR_0000002579) — Attempting to manage the switch using the Web Management
Interface may cause the switch to crash with a message similar to the following.
TLB Miss: Virtual Addr=0x00263f14 IP=0x00263f14 Task='tHttpd'
Task ID=0x85d76e70 fp:0x00000000 sp:0x85d76d30 ra:0x00263f14 sr:0x1000fc01
■ Crash (PR_1000811781) —When the user attempts RADIUS authentication to access the
Web Management Interface, the switch may crash with a message similar to the following.
TLB Miss: Virtual Addr=0x0024c904 IP=0x0024c904 Task='tHttpd'
Task ID=0x81e46eb0 fp:0x00000000 sp:0x81e46d70 ra:0x0024c904
sr:0x1000fc01
But you are using most recent software, so it could be a regression or a new bug, you should open a case.
I have compared it with 2610 switches because a recent firmware is available and nothing more than the already listed bugs was found.
Regards,

Re: E2510-24G crashing repeatedly
Hi, I had same problem.
I've about 10 2510G, with different firmware version.
I tried to update some of them to 11.16, no one is working well : crash and auto-reboot after few seconds or minutes. (specialy if i tried to access to the web management).
I bring the swith back to the factory settings, but still crashing.
The problem seems to be related with stacking.
If the switch is member, you can exclude it of the stack from the stack commander management website, or
If the switch is stack commander, you should use the console to boot on the secondary firmware.
(if i'm right it's somthing like : "update" and then "jp 2". use help command for more details)
Install the 11.12 firmware : it is working well :-)
I've found many people having problem with 11.16 : did HP knowing what is a test ?
2510 is an old switch, the 11.16 version is more than one year old and still available on HP website. Many people had problems with it. bug is computing life, but why this firmware is not corected or, at least, deleted from HP support ?

Re: E2510-24G crashing repeatedly
Most of the tHttpd errors and other bugs are solved in the latest firmware.
You have to contact the Support, because it is not released to web for over a year.
I recommend the latest firmware because the 11.16 has too many critical bugs.
