Genuine HP SFP+

Good morning,

we bought 2 J9150A SFP+ Transceivers. Both of them carry what looks like original HP Stickers on them, but they have different formats: One is a little longer than the other, one looks like it's screwed together while the other one looks clipped together, the one sticker looks like it's made of paper while the other is made of plastic, and so on. We also ordered 2 J9731A, but they haven't arrived yet, so i can't just install it in the switch an see what happens...

Is there any way to find out if both of them are genuine HP transceivers?

I tried calling the support hotline, but the (india based?) Support lady couldn't understand my question, all she told me was how the J9150A is compatible with our switch only if we install the J9731 Module. Which is true, but didn't help me with my question at all :/

Thanks in advance!

Re: Genuine HP SFP+

Hi Mike,

The most easy way for you to check if they are working is to insert the transceivers in a supported switch/module with up to date software. The switch will recognize the transceivers or not and possibly give an error message in the log. This is not flawless though.

Re: Genuine HP SFP+

If they both have HP stickers saying they are J9150s, then that is hopefully what they are.

And yes, they can be made in different factories using different parts, so they don't always look identical.

When you put them in a Procurve switch, that switch will check their part numbers for you, which will be the test.
