HP 2920 GBIC J4859C's no link activity
This is a totally baffling issue,
We have J9729A's on release #WB.15.11.0007 and both have GBIC J4859C's but neither show link lights.
Inserting the GBICS are acknolwedged by the switches but that is it.
Any clues most appreciated.
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to ProCurve / ProVision-Based. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: HP 2920 GBIC J4859C's no link activity
Have exactly the same problem.
Fibre run is 75m and has been fully tested as have the patch leads:
Configuration is as follows:
Fibre is single mode
Patch Leads are LC-SC SM 9/125 Duplex leads (same at each end)
GBIC are J4859C Part #1990-4364
Switch is 2920 - 24 and 2920-48 with the latest firmeware release
The switches are up and running when I place the GBIC into the switch, there is a short green light which indicates that the switch has seen and registered the GBIC.
Sho int trans: shows the tranciever correctly
problem: I cannot bring up the link between switches, no link light nothing :(
The relevant ports on both swtches are untagged

Re: HP 2920 GBIC J4859C's no link activity
One solution that worked at a remote site was to try several GBIC's, out of the 3 available 2 failed at bringing up the connect, with 1 finally working.
The link was auto negotiate, port disable/re-enable made no different.
The current issue is on the same data/voip vlan implementation, just a different location.
Using cisco voip phones, connected to PCs

Re: HP 2920 GBIC J4859C's no link activity
I have been through the same process and used 5/6 GBIC's without success. Pretty sure that it is not the GBIC's causing the problem

Re: HP 2920 GBIC J4859C's no link activity
Hi All,
Are you able to confirm that if you connect a switch directly to another switch with a fibre patch cable the link comes up?
If so then it sounds like you might need to swap over the rx & tx on teh patch leads/fibre patch panel. I have seen this at a couple of sites, but really shouldnt happen if using LC patch leads, but I have seen it.
HTH
