HP ProCurve 5308xl
I'm receiving excessive crc/alignment errors on an inactive port. (enabled on switch, but nothing connected to it) what would cause this?
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switching > Comware-Based to ProCurve / ProVision-Based - Hp Forum Moderator

Re: HP ProCurve 5308xl
Do the errors show up in the output of 'show interface XX' (where XX is the port id)? If so, try disabling & re-enabling the port, and running 'clear statistics XX' and see if they keep coming. If the errors keep showing up, it probably indicates a faulty switch blade.

Re: HP ProCurve 5308xl
Do you have the latest firmware on the switch? I would upgrade first. Clear stats. See if they come back.

Re: HP ProCurve 5308xl
Odd issue.. one more thing you could try if the drops persist is to cross-test with another module. Do the errors follow the module, or stay with the slot? Once you've figured that out you'll know whether the chassis or the module has issues, and can open a case with support to have it exchanged. Who knows, the issue may well disappear after swapping the modules or rebooting the switch.

Re: HP ProCurve 5308xl
Interesting issue...
my wild guess would be dust, corrosion or a bent pin in the connector of that interface.
