HP Procurve 5406R zl2

Hi,

HP MSM765zl  are supported by HP 540R zl2 or not ???

I have plug the MSM765zl in the chassis HP 5406R zl2 but it give error in module .

Howdy,

Both the MSM 765 and 775 zl modules are only supported in the original "non-R" versions of the zl chassis models. 

The 5400R is built for ZL version 3 modules and doesn't have an MSM module listed in its quickspecs. 

You will need an original "zl" chassis to host your MSM765 module.

Hi Ian, I think that statement is only partially correct...the HP MSM775 zl Premium Controller Module (J9840A) [*] is supported on Aruba 5400R zl2 Switch Series...provided that the Aruba 5400R zl2 Switch is configured to run in "Compatibility Mode" (so it can be easily equipped - and work - with both "v2 zl Modules" and newer "v3 zl2 Modules" or just a mix of them...clearly an Aruba 5400R zl2 fully updated equipped only with "v3 zl2 Modules" working in "v3 Mode Only" benefits of higher performances and supports enhanced features not available when the "Compatibility Mode" is active and "v2 zl Modules" are still used...but this is another story).

Back to the original OP question:

the answer is "No, the HP MSM765 zl (J9370A) is not supported on Aruba 5400R zl2 Switch Series, it's supported only on older HP ProCurve 5400 zl and HP ProCurve 8200 zl Switch Series".

So if the OP owns an Aruba 5400R zl2 he can't equip it with a MSM765zl but he is free to use a MSM775 zl instead.

[*] The J9840A (MSM775 zl) can be installed in any of the following chassis:

• HP/Aruba 5406R zl2 (J9821A)
• HP/Aruba 5412R zl2 (J9822A)
• HP 5406 zl (J8697A)
• HP 5412 zl (J8698A)
• HP 8206 zl (J9640A)
• HP 8212 zl (J8715A)

The last post is correct.  5400R supports v2 and v3 in compatiblity mode, but not v1.  As stated previously, MSM 765 (v1) will require a 5400 or 8400 (non R).
