HP Procurve switch advice please.
HP Procurve switch advice please.
I have a 2610-48 currently in production, which I am replacing with a HP 2530-48G, I may still use the 2610 if I run out of ports.
Current config on 2610
vlan1 - Data - Port2-52untagged - primary
vlan2 - Mitel Phones Port1 untagged, 2-52 tagged
PC's daisy change off the Mitel phones. PLEASE NOTE: When the phones fire up, they say VLAN2, Primary 6. Where is it getting this from?
I want to install the new 2530-48G and amend the vlans to:
VLAN10 - Phones
VLAN20 - Staff Data - Primary
VLAN30 - Student Data
I have wireless access points which have a private ssid which routes to vlan20 and a public ssid which routes through to vlan30.So these APs will be plugged into tagged ports.
Can anyone advise me what the switch config should be?

Re: HP Procurve switch advice please.
Hi Unrealone1,
The phones will either be getting the VLAN/Priority from the DHCP server on your Data VLAN or they have been hardcoded to each phone. I woudl start by checking for the Mitel DHCP options - off the top of my head I can't remember which ones they are - it was something I setup a number of jobs ago - but you will see them setup on the scope options if they use this method, otherwise you will need to check teh settings on each phone - hopefully they have not been hardcoded, it could mean quite a bit more work depending on how many phones you have!!
As a side note, the DHCP client request always goes out on the untagged vlan so your Data VLAN DHCP server will pick up the request, but as you want them to be on a different VLAN to the devices on the Data VLAN then it needs to instruct them to become a member of VLAN2 and with a specific QoS priority.
So, you'll have your APs connected to Tagged ports for VLAN20/30, Phones connected to ports which are members of VLAN10 tagged and VLAN20 untagged.
Iam assuming that VLAN20 and 30 are kept seperate, so the phones are for staff only.
And you inter-VLAN routing will be done by the 2530? or do you have a router to do this which wil be on a trunked/tagged port?
HTH
