Loosing MAC Address Intermittently
We are facing intermittent MAC address from the Table, these MAC learned from Panasonic Box.
We need to reset the port everytime this happens.
Setup: Panasonic PBX connected to HP Procurve 3500yl, on three ports, on every port we get two mac address with different IP's. Panasonic said one ip is physical and other IP is virtual.
intermittently the mac address of the physical ip of the pbx will be lost and we can't reach, during the same time we can reach the virtual ip on the same port.
PBX vendor verified the config and said no issue observered, any help will be appreciated.
Panasonic PBX model KX-TDE620
HP Procurve software version: 15.08

Re: Loosing MAC Address Intermittently
If the switch doesn't have an entry in its Mac-Address-Table, it will still forward frames to the device, therefore if you have loss of connectivity, the fault lies with the device itself.

Re: Loosing MAC Address Intermittently
I agree with Vince. Losing the MAC address is pretty much guaranteed to be a symptom of some other problem. Look at it this way: if you phone two people, and only one of them ever calls you back, how likely is it to be a fault with your phone?
What I would do is find a completely different make/model of switch and connect it between the Procurve and the PBX, see if it does the same thing. Also you could script resetting the port (via SNMP or otherwise) as a temporary workaround.

Re: Loosing MAC Address Intermittently
Or get a continuous ping going to the device, see if it ever drops off while that is going?

Re: Loosing MAC Address Intermittently
Thanks for the response.
We tried connecting to a different swith, its the same behavior
We are continuously pinging the IP address.
we had discussion with PBX vendor, he mentioned that he is loosing the connection to the network on the media processor card which is having issue.
We observed lot of broadcasts on that interface transmitting to the PBX interface and limit the broadcast on that switch to 10%
