Procurve 3500yl-24-PoE+ Firmware K.16.02.0030
I had most ports untagged in vlan 999 and a couple ports in other vlans. I wanted to set the switch back to default and deleted all the vlans with the exception of vlan 1. I was then unable to add the ports back to vlan 1 getting the error stated above. I attempted a factory reset but still no joy. Any ideas how to get the ports back?
Show interface displays no ports.

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
Which command you are using to assign port back to vlan 1?
Can you run 'show vlan' and check which ports bind to which vlan?
Try to assign vlan 1 as untagged to the ports?
Command would be like that:
Aruba(config)# vlan 1
Aruba(config)# untagged <port number>
You can use range command for multiple ports.
Thanks!

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
I have tried untagging the port to vlan 1 but I get the same message. Also if I run a show interface, I see not interfaces. I't like deleting the vlans also deleted the interfaces.
Show log also showws ports 1-24 failed to boot.

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
Hello @Sheepdog,
I am seeing that there are no interfaces bind to VLAN 1 or VLAN 999.
And Fault lights are 'ON'.
And you are not seeing any logs under 'show log'
Give a try to upgrade switch to version K.16.02.0033?
Below is the link to download software:
https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J9310A
If issue remains then you need to go with an RMA and log a case with support.
Thanks!

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
There is a log file and some of what it is showing is
chassis: Ports 1-24 Downloading
chassis: Ports 1-24 Download complete
chassis: System self test started on Ports 1024
chassis: system self test failed on Ports 1-24
chassis: Ports 1-24 failed to boot. Timeout reached: Self-test failed
This block repeats about 5 times.
Is it possible to upload firmware via telnet/ssh? I've never done it thta way but I can fixure it out. Can I use something like winscp via the serial interface or do it through putty?

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
Hello @Sheepdog,
Is this switch in stack or it is standalone switch?
Is it possible to reboot the switch one more time?
You can transfer software ile via tftp/ftp and if USB port is there then transfer via USB.
Thanks!

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
it is a stand alone switch.
I can reboot it as I had to replace it so I can do wahtever needs to be done.
I copied the new firmware to the switch via USB and I even copied a backup startup config.
The firmware took, but the backup startup config threw errors;
line: 4. Module type unrecognized or not allowed for this module.
line: 9. Module command missing for port or invalid port: 1-24
Line: 18. Module commadn missing for prot or invalid port: 24
So it seems the ports are just not being recognized by the switch. I always thought that when you delete a vlan the ports would return as untagged vlan 1. Am I wrong about that?? Should I move the ports manually before deleting a vlan?
If I run show interfaces, there are no ports in the list.

SolutionHello @Sheepdog,
You are correct, if you delete a vlan ports return to default vlan 1.
But here this is not working as expected.
Seems switch is faulty.
Can you log a case with suppor tfor an RMA?
Thanks!

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
One last question, Do these switches carry a lifetime warranty like the 1800 series?
I'm trying to log a case and the serial number isn't recognized.

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
I took a chance and rolled the unit back to K.15.16.0021, performed a no trunk 1 and the ports came back. It is throwing fault light for PoE, but the ports work. Power over ethernet controller shows error in the log "unrecoverable fault on PoE controller 0". If I roll it forward to any k.16 version, it falls back to the same problem no ports listed.
Just FYI.

Re: Module not present for port or invalid port:
Hello @Sheepdog,
Might be the software was not loaded properly. Can you give a try to K.16 version again?
What is the 'show power-over-ethernet' and ' show power-over-ethernet brief' output?
Thanks!
