Multiple VLANs, Multiple switches, sinlge DHCP server
Hi all
i am after a bit of guidance and advice
I am looking to implement new VLANS on an existing flat network for security purposes but want some advice on what i need to do to the uplink ports on the switches.
Teh switches I am working on is HP2510 48G and HP2510 24G's
There are 2 'core' switches (24 port) with links to each edge switch (48 port)
also I have a fibre link to a different cab with 3 more 48 port 2510's and I want to be able to have VLANs across all the switches.
Do I need to setup the VLAN on all switches and 'tag' the uplink ports in the VLAN and UNTAG the user ports for this to work?
Many thanks in advance
Simon

Re: Multiple VLANs, Multiple switches, sinlge DHCP server
On the uplink ports you should tag all VLAN's available on the core's
What type of switches are you using as core ?
In case these are also 2510-24G switches, how are they connected to the edge switches ?
If you connected every edge with both "core" switches, you will always have 1 passive connection if spanning-tree is configured

Re: Multiple VLANs, Multiple switches, sinlge DHCP server
Hi hansvb
all switches are connected using Cat6 Ethernet
Spanning Tree is not configured at the moment but might look into configuring STP in the future once I get my head around it all as its taking time to work it out.
Cheers
Simon
