Possible on untag port for multiple VLANs and passing the multiple VLANs across Procurve Switches

I am planing to pass multiple VLANs traffic between my firewall and Procurve switches.  I got into the situation that I need to connect the wireless access point to my firewall but I haveto get the access point closer to the user (connected to second Procurve 5308) instead of plug it in the server room.

I would like to see if it is possible to broadcast both VLANs (defaut and additional) by untagging both VLANs on one port and trunk another port in Procurve 1800 <-> Procurve 5308 <-> Second Procurve 5308.   The wireless access point will broadcast two wireless SSIDs which are from VLAN 1 and VLAN 2 for example.

The logical of this is passing both VLANs (1&2) from Procurve 1800 to Procurve 5308 and then another Procurve 5308 where the Wireless Access Point.

If someone has the similar case, please advise.

Re: Possible on untag port for multiple VLANs and passing the multiple VLANs across Procurve Switche

Hi Erwan888,

Unfortunately you can not have two untagged VLANs on the same port - you can only have one VLAN untagged, the others you add would need to be tagged - you can have all your VLANs tagged but you will then need to make sure that your firewall is able to tag the packets from each of the VLANs - subinteracing I beleive some of firewall vendors call it (I would be vey surprised that it couldn't).

Then you can tag the switch interconnect ports with both of these VLANs and pass the traffic to the ports on the 5308 that you need to conenct the AP to.

HTH.
