Problem with DHCP/hostname when using HP Procurve 2510 or 2824, works with 2524
Hi,
When setting the switch to obtain an IP address via DHCP, the Procurve 2524 switch sends its configured hostname to the DHCP server in the DHCP option field 12.
When using the same setting on a Procurve 2510 or 2824, no option field 12 is sent by the switch and the DHCP server does not automatically learn the hostname of the switch.
How do we have to configure a Procurve 2510 or 2824 to send its configured hostname in the DHCP request packet, option field 12?
Thanks for advice,
Michael

Re: Problem with DHCP/hostname when using HP Procurve 2510 or 2824, works with 2524
Since no replies were obtained, I summarise the situation as it stands (latest firmware to date):
- the older switches (2524) are able to send their hostname via DHCP
- the newer switches (2510 and 2824) are unable
Regards,
Michael

Have you looked at the "dhcp host-name-option" in the Multicast and Routing Guide? This may do what you want.
