ProCurve 8212zl Microsoft NLB

Hi,

we have a little between Microsoft, HP and VMware. We installed two Microsoft Exchange 2010 CAS server to an array. This array is basically configured as Microsofts network load balancing. We configured the NLB as mutlicast version and setup the vmware esxi hosts. The hosts are configured as recommended by vmware. The HP switch has be changed throug a command  "ip arp-mcast-replies".

Now the problem is that we only reached the Microsoft NLB from the same subnet. If we try to connect from another subnet we failed. No ping is possible and no response from the Exchange services. If i look in the arp table from the HP switch i don't see the MAC from the NLB.

Has anyone the same problem or does it work and you can give support by solving the problem?

Kind regard

Re: ProCurve 8212zl Microsoft NLB

Hi,

We have the same configuration with 5406zl switch and everything is working on IPv4 side. I have tested with Multicast and IGMP Multicast mode in NLB and they both work. I can see the NLB MAC in show arp from the switch and computers from another subnets can access the CAS Array. We are running K.15.07.0008 on the 5406zl but everything worked with the K.15.06.00xx also. We added 'ip arp-mcast-replies' to the switch configuration.

However we also added IPv6 address to the NLB and that's a different situation. NLB IPv6 MAC won't show up in the ipv6 neighbor table and traffic to the NLB cluster doesn't work from another subnet. Does anyone know if there is a similar command to the IPv6 side as the arp-mcast-replies was for the IPv4?

Kind regards,

Jani
