ProCurve Switch 2810 24G - Clustering ports

Dear my friends,

first I should apologies for my weak written language I'm not so powerful in English so I try best

I am network administrator in a very large Institute with 24 Computers monitoring 24/7

recently we bring 3line of high speed internet (ADSL 2+) : 3*2MB=6MB Internet Speed

and I want to buy three ADLS 2+ modems

now I want to cluster these modems to have 6MB Internet Speed

how can I do this configuration

can I configure this on my ProCurve Switch 2810 24G ?

I think there is a way to cerate a VLAN on my switch with 4 ports and configure 3port as input lines and 1 port as providing internet but I have no idea how can I do it.

or in another sentence can i have load balancing on 3 of my wan port on my switch?

thank you

Re: ProCurve Switch 2810 24G - Clustering ports

Hi there!

Your 2810 switch is really the wrong tool for the job here.  What you need is a router with WAN load balancing features.  There are many possible options - the one i'm using most at the moment is Vyatta, but there are lots of embedded Linux-based solutions (e.g. Mikrotik, Opengear), and many of the "premium" vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Watchguard, Fortinet, etc.  HP also have a range of routers (the MSR20/30/etc.), but i'm not sure which ones support WAN load balancing.

Good luck in your choice!

Re: ProCurve Switch 2810 24G - Clustering ports

A switch is the wrong tool for the job, especially a 2810, which doesn't have any routing capabilities, if i remember correctly.

If you're looking for a cheap solution, Vyatta Core is free. On a recycled PC with 100 Mbps NICs, it should easily cope with 3 x 2 Mbps DSL. Check it out at http://www.vyatta.org/. Note that you won't get perfect load-balancing across your 3 connections unless your ISP supports multilink PPP.
