Question on Procurve 4108gl switch
We were looking at purchasing this switch to upgrade our existing two 50-port switches. I have those swithes connected via a LAG but it has kind of become a pain trying to seperate everything. Since each switch is on a seperate power source I wsa trying to achieve redunandcy by splitting everything up using technologies such as teaming and just balancing like our exchange servers across the two switches. Plus our current swithes are not layer-3 and don't support spanning-tree... this causes me issues since i'm connecting it to a c7000 enclosure with two modules (had to disconnect the interconnect links between the modules to fix the looping issue)
Also we are routing between VLANs on our Cisco ASA5510 routers which I should achieve much greater throughput with this switch if I was using it for the routing.
Here are my main questions:
- This page shows the J4908A module which is a 20 port 10/100/1000 module is supported with the 4108gl switch. But the problem is I don't see that module listed in the manual? Maybe the manual I was viewing was out of date? Manual link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/59692376.pdf ... I think the module i'm talking about wasn't available at the time of this manual.
- Has anyone used this switch? I've had experience with Procurve 5412zl switches and it appears this switch is a lot like that one. (at least in what I used it for)
- How does the lifetime warranty on the procurve switches work if you don't buy the switch directly from an authorized HP reseller? Do you still get the lifetime warranty?
- I see it says it only supports 160 gigabit ports? What happens if I put 8 of the 20 port 10/100/1000 modules? That is technically 200 ports.....
Thanks in advanced for the answers!

Re: Question on Procurve 4108gl switch
I can answer part of your question:
The J4908A http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/support/converter/index.aspx?productNum=J4908A has been EOL since Feb-2009 so you won't find it an any authorized reseller. The 4108gl http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/support/converter/index.aspx?productNum=J4865A was EOL Jan-2008 also thatone is not available through any authorized reseller.
Why it's not in the manual I can't answer.
The Limited Lifetime warranty is only transferable from bonafide end-user to bonafide end-user as per the warranty guide http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/support/warranty/index.aspx
