stacking solution in HP3500ly 24port

Hi,

I'm very new to HP devices and got task to resolve issue of HP network.

we have a test bed in a one location for our cleint requirement.

We basically using 2 nos. HP 3500yl switches, which has stacking feature. We have connected 2 nos. of stacking cables in cross manner between both switches with configured different VLANs (1, 23 and 30)

There are two nos. of WAN link in a ring tolpology which are terminated in both switches separately. same connectivity and HP switches are placed at other ends. It forms a ring network, whch are connected with Core L3 switch.

We are using OSPF for routing between different IP subnets.

Due to some technical requirements, we would require to stack both switches at each locations.

Kindly support to provide step by step configuratios process to make stack both switches.

Regards,

Dinesh

You probably need to look into something called "distributed trunking". With the latest K15 firmware revisions, you can set up 2 switches linked together (you need an ISL and ISC connection between them) so you can run multi-link aggregation (MLAG) into that pair from external devices (ie an LACP aggergated link into the 3500 pair).

The 3500 switches do not support "true" stacking. They have a management IP facility that allows up to 16 devices to be managed with a single IP, but that does not enable MLAGs.

For "true" stacking, you will need to look at the 3800 (or possibly the 2920 with slightly lower functionality).
