Upgrade primary flash image without rebooting now ?
Hi.
On an HP procurve 5412zl :
I have some bugs with my version of flash (K.15.02.0005), it sometimes freezes and the only way to quickly solve the problem is to reboot the switch. So HP advises me to upgrade the flash version of it. But this switch can't be rebooted easily (lots of critical servers connected) to do this upgrade.
Is it possible and (not dangerous) to put the image of the new flash version (K.15.06.0008) on the primary, but without any changes now, and when my switch will reboot again after a failure, it will install the new version ?
I hope I'm clear...
Tks
Stephane

Re: Upgrade primary flash image without rebooting now ?
Hi,
yes you can do this.
Just put the new image to the non-active flash area. With command show flash, you can see which area is active. So put image to non-active area a and after this use command: (config)#boot set-default flash <primary or secondary> depends on the area with new image. This command set the active area for next reboot but do not reboot the switch immediately. Don't use command "boot system flash" which do same thing but reboots the switch immediately.
One thing I'm not sure is, if boot set-default command will work when switch reboot itself accidentaly. But suppose that it should work, you can try this.

Jan

I'm not sure if this is required or not but make sure to issue "write memory" after that.
