Using a new HP switch with older models

I have two Procurve 4204vl switches, J8770A.  I have one configured as Commander and other as Member.  I just received an HP 2920-48g (J9728A), and I would like to use it with the existing switches.  Can the 2920 be joined to the existing stack?  Or can I just plug it in to one of the 4204's and use it as a switch, without it being managed from the stack?

Is stacking mainly for management purposes?

I am only using 1GB copper ports.

Re: Using a new HP switch with older models

The 4200 "stacking" isn't really stacking, it is just management clustering.

The 2920 is different: its "stacking" is real stacking, but of course that means it will only stack with other 2920s.
