Vlan Help Please!
Hey everyone,
I have a HP procurve 2650 switch, i have read over the net on a few different sites etc on how to create vlan's.
so i have gone ahead and done this:
created new vlan ID = vlan 35
port 49 is my uplink too my router
tagged ethernet 49
untagged ethernet 15 ( my testing port for this job)
after doing so when I then attempt to browse / ping out any where i do no have an IP any more and only have the lovely 169.254.etc.etc address
What am I doing wrong / what am I missing?
In the end game I would like to have one vlan for my wi-fi and another vlan for my IP cam's that i will be getting down the road.
Any help would be great, thanks!
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to ProCurve / ProVision-Based. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: Vlan Help Please!
Check that the setting on the port that connects to your router for your VLAN tagged or untagged match that of the router. Many routers do not support tagging.

Re: Vlan Help Please!
just to add to Neil's response, if you are running a cisco router you will need to setup a trunked port - confusing as it is not the same meaning as trunking in the HP world, also it could be called sub-interface, you would need to have both your VLANs tagged on the uplink to the router and then the router wouldneed to be setup to be able to communicate on both these VLANs, that will then allow the router/firewall to route traffic inter-VLAN if needed.
So the crux of it is that your switch config is correct, but it is your router/firewall config which is missing the neccessary changes - if it has the functionality.
HTH
