Perhaps there is such a thing as free lunch: Reducing IT costs with HPE CloudPhysics
It is often said there is no such thing as a free lunch. That being said, here at HPE we have a great tool for you to access, which is 100% free and may help increase efficiencies and reduce costs across your organisation.
When investigating or investing in new infrastructure and resources, it’s vital to know how your current environment is utilised. This allows you to understand the requirements of your organisation and define where to go next. How can we know where we are going if we don’t know where we have been or where we are today? HPE CloudPhysics can help.
Knowledge is one of the keys to success. To gain knowledge, we must ensure we have the valid and valuable data. Truth be told the sayings, “Data is the new gold,” or “Data is the new oil”, are extremely valid in this digital age; the proper use of information is essential for successful planning and business decisions. Using your information correctly gives a tremendous advantage in reducing costs and more importantly addressing risk.
So, how can we help picking a place to eat? Or what is HPE CloudPhysics?
HPE CloudPhysics is a free, simple solution that assesses and analyses infrastructure. It can estimate the costs of migration to multi cloud or on premises solutions, and models the infrastructure of your virtualised environments (VMware today, but other collectors will soon be supported).
It is provided to you ‘as a service’, with no hardware or software needed, and can save up to 50% unnecessary spend, just by sizing correctly and mentioned data has real value!
HPE CloudPhysics allows you to make decisions about investments based on need, and not risk the overspend that can come with assumptions and oversizing due to lack of insights.
It can also help make key choices as different platforms require different resources, and the tool can help define these requirements, across both private and public clouds, removing any guesswork across a large set of metrics and help you reach the desired outcomes and direction.
Like helping you choose your lunch location - in keeping with the theme!
What’s on the menu - how does it work?
HPE CloudPhysics collects and analyses detailed data to identify what resources are being used or highlight potential dangers in the existing install base. It looks at more than 200 metrics, including key items such as hosts, data stores and more, before determining the resources that can be right sized for the virtual machine (by default application) to do its job.
For example: If a virtual machine has been configured with eight virtual processors, but HPE CloudPhysics detects that it never uses more than two to run its applications, the size of the virtual machine can be adjusted and scaled down accordingly – Wow, a free tool and instant savings with zero purchase!
Installing the tool takes minutes, with information generated about your environment in just 15 minutes. A deeper dive, with comprehensive analysis of the environment and reports produced, is available after seven days of using the tool and the assessment will run up to 30 days for deeper insights but you have access to the data and timestamps of the collection throughout the assessment.
A full-fledged menu of data – helping you make that key meal choice.
Choose your meal wisely by using HPE CloudPhysics to calculate costs
HPE CloudPhysics can calculate the cost of maintaining the IT infrastructure, including the power needed to run it, as well as analysing the use of shared storage where you can define your known cost per terabyte. It will also simulate various deployment scenarios, by technology or infrastructure location. Within minutes of activation, the tool can compare the current VMware infrastructure with the current prices and configuration options of public cloud providers, including HPE GreenLake which will offer price, performance and availability benefits and the safety of data sovereignty as you information remains with you.
This powerful tool allows you to easily and quickly make data-driven decisions about the cost of running applications in the public cloud excluding migration costs, so keep an eye on this, it can be huge to move your data to someone else’s location and even more costly to bring it back. Combining this kind of comparison with the real needs of applications prevents inadvertent transfer of idle resources to the public cloud, and avoids paying for what is not needed.
HPE CloudPhysics provides analytics from your own environment that helps you make smarter purchasing decisions across your cloud environment, from the edge to public cloud. It allows optimisation of applications and data placement and ensures you have only the infrastructure that is needed and reduces the risk of overspend when acquiring new resources.
Now you know what there is available - so choose your delights…
Have your cake and eat it by using the benefits of HPE CloudPhysics
HPE CloudPhysics data capture is one of the most thorough in the industry. With it, you can tailor your existing environment to ensure that your workloads run on the most cost-effective infrastructure possible.
It is a proven solution that could save you up to 50% when sizing correctly. Over 5000 assessments run globally use HPE CloudPhysics, and the data shows large percentage of your infrastructure is not used as regularly as you may think.
Helping you to reduce financial spend and better leverage resources, HPE CloudPhysics also holds the potential for reducing environmental impact, cutting the unnecessary consumption amount of energy.
Providing increased visibility and a deeper understanding of the real state of your IT environment, HPE CloudPhysics makes the procurement process more efficient, informing planning and purchasing with accurate data, thereby accelerating digital transformation, with a transparent view of your infrastructure, allowing you to create efficiencies and move forward faster.
And did I mention it is free, so add the cake… And take the savings and buy lunch.
HPE CloudPhysics is available through authorised HPE partners, as well as directly through HPE. Using this service is free to HPE partners and customers.
