Graduating Class of 2021
Here at HPE we greatly value our Early careers program, as it enables us to support our young people through their starting years at HPE. This two-year programme allows for Graduates and Apprentices to attend a variety of different workshops and talks to improve upon their soft skills, mindset, wellbeing, and business development. At the end of this programme, the students that stood out from the graduating class of 2021 were awarded for their achievements throughout the year.
The winner of the โComit & Goโ award was Shauna Evans. Shauna is now a Nonstop Sales specialist, who leads the Early Career Committee. This is a committee that is made up of a team of interns who work to set up various social, networking and charity events for the interns, graduates, and apprentices. The aim of this committee is to bring together the Early Careers and to build a sense of community. The Early Careers committee has been able to raise ยฃ20,000 throughout the years for charities including Young Minds, Cancer Research and Sebastianโs Action Trust.
Shauna described her favourite part of the programme as a trip to the Otward-Bound Lake District. โOn the trip we spent the week gorge scrambling, abseiling, and hiking all while learning HPE values. The trip really pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me the opportunity to enhance my skill set, particularly my teamwork, communication, and leadership skillsโ.
Abbie Grindey won the โWellness Warriorโ award as โAbbie always puts the wellbeing of others first and really is just a bundle of joy, keeping everyone in the office positive.โ Abbie is now a HR generalist and found that her biggest area of growth throughout this programme was her confidence and overcoming imposter syndrome. The program taught him to have more faith in her abilities and to embrace challenging opportunities with both hands.
Jordan Osman was highly commended for the โPlayers playerโ as his role can be quite unique in terms of getting lots of opportunity to support other people. He believes that this recognition reflets his commitment to this and doing what he can to get the best out of the other early careers. Jordanโs favorite part of the programme was the sense of community which was built throughout the programme as this helped everything to feel a part of something.
The โPower of yes we canโ award was won by James McCann as โJimโs drive and passion for everything he does has stood him in good stead, Jim not only accelerated his sales Academy but also took on a number of stretch projects to help the development of all early careers, the main one being the Early career fair.โ
Harry Tucker is currently working as a Cloud Software Engineer for the Hybrid Cloud/OCTO organization and he won the award for โMost helpfulโ as โHarry is a great team player, and as scrum master, is always demonstrating that he has his teamโs interests at heart. He regularly collaborates with early careers in his team, is an intern mentor as well as represent HPE in STEM outreachโ. Harry believes that Software Engineering is often characterised as a solo activity, but it is actually a massive team effort involving many people. He really enjoys helping others solve issues, and trying to show the same level of support when he was given throughout Early Careers to those who are now coming in and just starting their Early Careers journey.
The early careers programme here at HPE continues to grow and develop every year, allowing to provide support for young people to progress their careers at HPE. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2021, we look forward to seeing your future development in the years to come.
